Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip

There was always plenty of charm and no small degree of ingenuity in the collaboration between producer Dan Le Sac and rapper Scroobius Pip. The latter’s hugely inventive way with words, as seen on calling card Thou Shalt Always Kill, was perfectly in sync with the former’s way with a rocksteady groove. Their second album, though, sees the pair merely retracting past glories, with many of the tracks failing to make a mark in such an audacious manner as before. The beats are certainly broader and deeper, pushing the musical boat again and again beyond hip-hop waters into heavier terrain, and Scroobius Pip still rocks the mic with a fierce determination (the sparse, tense Five Minutes is the pick of the bunch in this regard), yet there’s little to

be found in the combination that wasn’t in the mix the

first time around. myspace.com/lesacvspip
