Brian Eno

It’s time to go back to the airport and do some strolling around. Like his seminal Music for Airports, Brian Eno’s new album is about engaging the listener with subtle, tender, gentle and lengthy passages of sound.

Over the course of four tracks and 75 minutes, Eno creates elegant, exquisite, minimal clusters of sound that pull off the neat trick of never quite demanding your full attention, yet never just disappearing into the background either. Largely based on meandering piano motifs, the occasional spike of a trumpet, guitar or glockenspiel pulls you back into the flow of the track and reminds you that you're not simply listening to a sound installation in a gallery (which was the original source for the album). While Lux is slight rather than substantial in a lot of places, it is, you could say, the very definition of Eno-esque. brian-eno.net
