Ben Solle And Daniel Martin Moore

Dear Companion is the work of three Kentuckians speaking out against the practice in which mountains in Appalachia are blown up to reveal the coal within. Guitarist/songwriter Daniel Martin Moore, cellist/ songwriter Ben Sollee and producer/player Yim Yames got together to lend their quietly passionate voices to the movement. Moore’s songs and performance have roots deep in folk, solitary, intense and ascetic, while Sollee’s cello and singing is more leftfield pop.

The mix is intriguing. Lively imaginations are at play in the 12 songs, and no two follow the same pattern, although the tone of concern is consistent. Try finds Sollee building up an interesting sweat; Moore’s simple aesthetic is impressive on Sweet Marie; both combine

to good effect on the bustling Something Somewhere, Sometime and the gospelly My Wealth Comes to Me. See dearcompanion.com
