That’s Cheryl Cole to you, mate, and yes, while she may have some way to go to be known by all and sundry by her first name, the woman formerly known as Cheryl Tweedy is doing her darndest to forge a solo career without the help of any Girls Aloud or X-Factor associations.

So far Cole has enjoyed the most successful post-GA solo career, yet there’s something about her new material (especially her latest album, A Million Lights) that makes you think she’ll have an even stronger future in pop music. Cole also seems to have balanced the singer/fashion conundrum very smartly (British Vogue: “Her wardrobe choices have become as successful as her singles”), making her the girl next door with a good pop sensibility who also wears it well.
