Those who pay in at the door will be hoping that it’s second time lucky for former professional footballer Darren Cunningham. The man who, as Actress (above), makes alluring, exciting and creative techno textures was a no-show at Dublin’s Forbidden Fruit festival last June.

Cunningham turned to music when injury scuppered his career with West Brom around a decade ago. The Wolverhampton native quickly moved from DJing to producing. As he has showed with recent albums Splazsh and this year’s R.I.P., Cunningam’s masterful way with bleeps, beats and pulses is quite unlike what everyone else is doing.

With, R.I.P , Cunningham further removes himself from the rest of the field with his ghostly, hazy, shadowy sounds. You can certainly see why the likes of Flying Lotus are happy to big him up.

Support from Monto, the young Wicklow producer signed to Melted Music.
