Irish Volunteer belt plate sells for £1,300

TUESDAY'S sale of militaria at James Adam in Dublin saw a George III silver oval Irish Volunteer cross belt plate, inscribed "For King & Country" and dating from 1796, make £1,300. A mid 19th century gilt and blue enamel officer's shoulder belt sold for £800, a group of early 20th century medals made £620, as did both a Victorian helmet of the Fourth Royal Irish Dragoon Guards and a Victorian County Louth Rifles insignia. A sum of £600 was paid for an Edwardian blue cloth pattern helmet of the Royal Irish Regiment.
