Civil War munition made safe near Co Kildare town

A Civil War era munition has been made safe after it was discovered near a Co Kildare town.

An Army bomb disposal team made the weapon safe and removed it on Saturday evening after it was found in the vicinity of Ballymore Eustace.

The Army team attended the scene following a request from An Garda Síochána.

A number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place in the surrounding area for the duration of the operation.
