A welcome two-for-one reissue, ICOand Shadow of the Colossusoffer complementary but distinct thrills. The latter is a third-person fantasy action game (with shades of God of War), difficult but exciting, that pits you against behemoths, giants and, eh, colossi. In the heart-rending ICO, you are a wrongfully imprisoned boy who must escort another prisoner to freedom. It's a third-person puzzle adventure, taking some cues from the original Tomb Raiderand Prince of Persia, and influencing the mighty Limbo. The graphics in both stretched the limitations of Playstation 2 when they debuted: ICOhas charming character animation and stunning landscapes, while Colossusboasts impressive scenery as well as imaginative creature design. The gameplay in both has aged well. These are genuine classics.
