Fancy a trip to a “horrible little shack” in a remote part of Cumbria? It sounds like the sort of the thing that might be free to those who can afford it and very expensive to those that can’t. Leave me alone. I’m sitting down to enjoy my holiday. Okay, we’ll stop quoting Withnail and I like a gang of stoned students.

It has been announced that Sleddale Hall, the structure that doubled for Uncle Monty’s cottage, is to host two screenings of Bruce Robinson’s irresistible 1987 comedy. At one stage, there were plans to turn Sleddale Hall into a hostel themed around the film. That proved too costly and the property passed to Tim Ellis, an architect. Mr Ellis plans to renovate the building as a family home.

But next month, the Hall’s courtyard will be the venue for the screenings and evenings of live music. A spokesperson for Picnic Cinema, a body dedicated to unveiling cinema in exotic locations, told the Guardian: “This event is camping only. We wish to respect and protect the farmer’s land and livestock.” Of course he’s the fucking farmer. Stop saying that! And so on. picniccinema.co.uk
