Sam Smith to sing ‘quickest song I’ve written’ in new Bond film

Sam Smith says he wrote the theme song for the new James Bond film ‘Spectre’ in just 20 minutes – ‘and they loved it!’

Brit-award winning singer Sam Smith has been confirmed as the voice of the new Bond theme song. The 23-year-old said singing the title song to Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, was "one of the highlights of my career". Smith told BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw. "I'm so relieved to actually talk about this, this has been a top secret mission of my own."

Smith added: "I got called into the office with [producer] Barbara Broccoli and [director] Sam Mendes and they gave me the script. I read the script... they said 'Have a go at the song'. It's the quickest I've ever written a song — it took 20 minutes . . . and they loved it!"

The song will be available to buy and stream from September 25.
