How tricky is it for gay actors to find work in Hollywood? A recent piece in Newsweekargues that major studios are still very reluctant to employ homosexual stars.

"The lovable lesbian wives in The Kids Are All Rightwere played by the heterosexual actresses Annette Bening and Julianne Moore," Ramin Setoodeh writes. "The quirky couple in I Love You Phillip Morriswere portrayed by straight men Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor."

The comments echo recent remarks by the indomitable Richard Chamberlain, who came out in his 2003 autobiography. “I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man-type actor to come out. There is still a tremendous amount of homophobia in our culture,” he said. Move on, Hollywood.
