EU information campaign starts

The European Commission and European Parliament yesterday began an information campaign to bring the EU closer to the individual citizen. The Citizens First campaign includes a series of guides about people's rights as EU citizens in other member states.

The Irish campaign was inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism and Trade, Mr Kenny. He said the EU President, Mr Jacques Santer, had identified a deficit of awareness of the EU, particularly during the Maastricht Treaty ratification process.
