Kitsune Maison 5 Kitsune **

Chic French label Kitsune has carved out a smart niche specialising in top-drawer electro- rock soundclashes. Its Kitsune Maison compilations, in particular, have provided a reliable and robust health check of a scene where bands and electrics happily collide. Acts such as The Teenagers, Cazals, The Whip and Crystal Castles have all found a room in the label's maison. This time out, though, there's little to get excited about, with many of the contributors experiencing an off day. For some, such as Fisherspooner, the continuing dearth of any decent ideas causes you to huff and sigh. For Digitalism, for instance, the track itself is simply a bad call. There are few bright sparks here, with only Rex the Dog and Cazals appearing capable of taking things forward. www.kitsune.fr   JIM CARROLL
