Last month, we published our favourite cover versions and asked readers to post theirs to our On The Recordblog. Here's a selection of the comments.

I'd like to mention Joey Ramone's version of Wonderful World and The Lemonheads' Mrs Robinson, but my pick for the greatest cover version is The Wedding Present's version of Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile). - Brendan

yyy Much as I love Robert Wyatt's Shipbuilding, it's not technically a cover version. Costello wrote it specifically for Wyatt and then recorded his own cover (if you know what I mean) the following year. - Moose

I like these: The Beach Boys - Sloop John B; Ryan Adams - Wonderwall; The Mike Flowers Pops - Wonderwall; David Bowie - Let's Spend The Night Together; Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet; Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower; The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody.

Smashing Pumpkins' Landslide is brilliant. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole singing Over The Rainbow/It's a Wonderful World. Placebo doing Running Up That Hill.

- Le Catch

Ah Jim! I can't believe a man of your impeccable musical taste went for Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah over John Cale's. While Leonard Cohen had the experience to sing the song, he lacked the musical ability. Buckley had the ability but lacked the experience. Now John Cale, in true three bears style, got it just right. - Conor

Susanna and the Magical Orchestra - Love Will Tear Us Apart - far better than the sickly upbeat Nouvelle Vague version. - Brian

Another condender must be David Bowie doing Wild is the Wind; Cat Power's take on Satisfaction is also sublime. - Charlie

Nick Cave - Rainy Night in Soho. David Bowie - Amsterdam. José Gonzalez - Heartbeats. Snuff - I Think We're Alone Now. - markg

Al Green's cover of The Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand does something every cover should, retaining the recognisable aspects of a tune yet styled in a way that makes it the artist's own. - Joe

Pavement - The Killing Moon; Dinosaur Jr - Just Like Heaven; Quicksand - How Soon is Now - any occasion where 80s new wave is given a bit of crunch. - flynnduism

I like Arcade Fire's version of Open All Night by Springsteeen. - colly_browy

Mazzy Star - Five String Serenade. Rufus Wainwright - Across the Universe. The Fall - Victoria. Blondie - Denis. Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Soft Cell - Tainted Love. - Jenn

I love the Manics' version of Out of Time by the Stones. Sounds like a bloody showband, but what the hell. REM did a nice version of Wichita Lineman. And finally - I don't care what yez say - I really like U2's version of Everlasting Love. - Ivan

The Pale do a really brilliant cover of Walking On The Moon. - Sarah

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Johnny Cash - Hurt; another good cover was Futureheads (not mad on the band) - Hounds of Love.

Also: Morrissey - That's Entertainment, White Stripes - Jolene, The Band - I Shall Be Released, Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night. - Brian

Beth Orton did a most beautiful, spine tingly version of So Long, Marianne at the Came So Far for Beauty show. - Liz

Gossip doing Careless Whisper is fantastic! - Justine

Ryan Adams - Down In A Hole. Van Morrison - A Change Is Gonna Come. Joss Stone - Victim of a Foolish Heart. Jimmy Eat World - Firestarter. Yes - America. Oasis - Cum on Feel the Noize. Kingsmen - Louie Louie. Aretha Franklin - Respect. Muse - House of the Rising Sun. The Clash - I Fought The Law. The Vines - Ms Jackson - Ciaran
