In last Friday's front-page news digest it was reported that the Irish Locomotive Drivers' Association had "threatened to call a train strike over the implementation of a new pay and productivity deal". In fact, as the news report inside made clear, the ILDA did not threaten industrial action; it called an extraordinary general meeting of its members for Sunday, June 4th, to decide if the ILDA would co-operate with the new agreement.

The report also stated that this was the third year in a row in which train-drivers had threatened to disrupt services on the June bank holiday. Last year it was in fact July 9th and 11th when ILDA members disrupted services to the midlands, west and south in a dispute over disciplinary procedures. In 1998 services were disrupted when the ILDA's forerunner, the National Locomotive Drivers' Association, urged drivers to take July 12th off as a rest day.
