A report headed "O'Donoghue opens Castlerea Prison" in Wednesday's editions said the Castlerea Prison was a low-security one with no traditional cell blocks, but with two refurbished wings of a former asylum and a number of newly-built bungalows to which the inmates will have keys. Prisoners were stated to be able to earn up to £50 a week.

We are advised that in fact there is both a high-security unit and a low-security unit. A cell block has been built as a secure unit with a capacity for 152 prisoners; the low-security prisoners preparing for release will be held in the bungalows. The payment to prisoners will be the standard £1 a day. The report also said the education unit would be run by the Probation and Welfare Service. It will in fact be run by Roscommon VEC in conjunction with the co-ordinator for prison education at the Department of Justice.

An article on the Arthouse Multimedia Centre for the Arts in the editions of April 22nd stated incorrectly that Ms Aileen MacKeogh remains on the board of directors. The Arts Council funding of £10,000 referred to was for the 1997 exhibition programme only. Also, an accompanying photograph was wrongly captioned. It showed artistic director Mr Niall Sweeney and chief executive Dr Aoibheann Gibbons.
