Belfast City Council has ordered a group which placed the Irish language sign "Bruscar" on 300 litter bins across Belfast to pay for their removal.

The council made the decision at a meeting on Wednesday night.

The DUP, which tabled the motion, said that English was the only language which should appear on council property.

Councillor Nigel Dodds, of the DUP, said that Conradh na Gaeilge, which erected the signs, would have to foot the bill for their removal.
