The great Mel Brooks, whose musical adaptation of The Producers was such a hit on Broadway, has been hinting for some time that he might develop an all-singing, all-dancing theatrical version of his 1974 classic, Young Frankenstein.

Undeterred by the muted response that greeted the recent film of The Producers, Brooks, now 79, has confirmed that he is finally launching himself into the project.

Talking to Reuters, he gave the world a preview of a song to be delivered by Frau Blücher, the terrifying caretaker of the Frankenstein estate, in praise of her late master.

"He vus my boyfriend/ He vould come home in a snit/ He vould have a terrible fit/ I am the first thing he vould hit, but I didn't give a shit/ He vus my boyfriend," Mel warbled.
