Next weekend, Limerick will be the location of a two-day antiques and fine art fair that the organiser, Robert O’Donnell of Hibernian Fairs, predicts will be Ireland’s “biggest ever such event”.

With more than 70 stands, including 15 run by members of the Irish Antique Dealers’ Association, the fair takes place at the South Court Hotel, Raheen, next Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm both days.

The event will feature thousands of items, on view and for sale, including pictures, prints, small pieces of furniture, silver, jewellery, books and all manner of collectibles.

Exhibitors will include Vanessa Parker Rare Books, whose collection of children’s vintage books might appeal to discerning godparents looking for an interesting christening gift, or to anyone trying to find a Christmas present.

Roger Grimes Antiques and Prints will offer a selection of lots that would make “wonderful affordable presents”, including ready-to-frame mounted and wrapped original prints of subjects as diverse as Beatrix Potter, Irish topography, horses, dogs and newspaper reports of the Great Famine.
