Zoo-poo makes tidy cash pile for waste recyclers

WASTE not, want not. Business opportunities are there to be scooped up in the most unlikely environment

WASTE not, want not. Business opportunities are there to be scooped up in the most unlikely environment. Even in the cage floor area of Dumbo, the elephant, and Leo, the lion, the potential for added value lies in steaming mounds just waiting to be turned into cash.

A small British company specialising in composting technology recently formed a joint venture with Devon based, Paignton Zoo, to process animal manure into a cash crop for sale in garden centres at around £4 for a 25 litre pack. Production of the product, bearing the charming brand name "zoo-poo", is now up to 100 tons. Where there's the contemporary philosopher's, stone of recycling technology, muck can readily be transmuted into brass.
