Arnotts pensions manager Paul King has exited the department store to take up a senior post with Acuvest, the pensions restructuring adviser headed by John Tuohy.

King had run the Arnotts defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes for the past six years and this experience should stand to him at Acuvest, where Tuohy and chairman David Kingston have been to the forefront in recent years in questioning the survival of defined benefit schemes and urging companies to switch to defined contribution ones.

As it happens, Arnotts plans to cease contributions to its defined benefit scheme from December, joining a long list of leading Irish corporates to do so.

Gordon Ramsay and his restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt in Enniskerry feature prominently in the autumn edition of the posh hotel chain’s members’ brochure.

“Fresh from an update last year, Ramsay and chef de cuisine Peter Byrne’s menu is a roster of favourite local classics finessed into modern masterpieces,” the brochure gushes.

“Think roast guineafowl with port jus; west Cork scallops with crushed broad beans; and pan-fried hake with spinach, artichoke, cherry tomato and cep vinaigrette,” it adds.

Ramsay said the menu takes its “inspiration” from his Savoy Grill in London.

This makes sense because, let’s face it, ’twas far from guineafowl with port jus and hake with cep vinaigrette we were all raised. Even in the monied environs of Enniskerry.
