DAA’s Tweetman to show the rest how it’s done

Paul O'Kane, the director of public affairs at Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), has caught the eye of his industry peers with his constant twittering.

The European branch of Airports Council International (ACI), the umbrella group for airports worldwide, has appointed him chairman of its new digital communications forum.

O'Kane, a former business editor of the Sunday Tribune, is a particularly prolific member of Ireland's Twitterati. His smartphone must be almost embedded into his hand at this stage, such is the volume of generally entertaining tweets he rattles off for DAA, not to mention his own personal feed.

The DAA, apparently, has emerged as one of the top airports globally in Twitter terms – it is 83rd largest in the world in terms of passenger numbers, but seventh largest on Twitter, with 47,000 followers. DAA’s Twitter feed was also voted best in the (airport) world last year at the Moodies aviation industry awards. O’Kane gave the ACI a speech on how to harness social media in February, and they recently asked him to head up their new digital forum, which is an “ideas exchange” group aimed at promoting better social media usage among European airports.
