WHO SAID you won’t attract executive talent to run our commercial semi-State companies with salary caps of €250,000? Kevin Toland’s recruitment as the next chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority appears to debunk that theory. The Meath man earned €925,000 with Glanbia last year.

Toland was a big hitter within Glanbia, where he ran the US business and global nutritionals unit from Chicago. These are Glanbia’s biggest and most profitable divisions.

It seems Toland had wanted to return home but there wasn’t a position within Glanbia’s Irish operation to match his ambitions.

Achieving passenger growth at the DAA’s airports while also dealing with Ryanair and Michael O’Leary should test his mettle.
