However GDP data for quarter three, out on Thursday, will also attract considerable attention. The figures are expected to show that an export-driven recovery continues, but domestic demand remains weak.

Markets will also be keeping an eye on comments from the European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet, who is due to speak at a journalist club meeting in Frankfurt today.
