CHECK: Where your iPhone has been

So Apple has quietly been storing data on where your iPhone or iPad has been. Not just that, the data file where it stores this information is transferred to a new device if you synch it to the same computer. Concerned?

MANAGE: Your children's Apple app purchases

As any iPhone or iPad owner with kids knows only too well, it can sometimes be far too easy for them to download paid-for apps without your knowledge, even with a password on your iTunes account.

This comprehensive Macworld article runs through your options from disabling the iTunes store on your device to setting up a monthly allowance for your child with their own iTunes account.

INSTALL: Word Lens for your iPhone

There are an increasing number of smartphone apps that offer to translate foreign language text on the fly.

What sets Word Lens apart is that you don’t need to have an internet connection, you don’t even need to take a picture – it’s all done in real time. The app is free but you’ll need to buy a dictionary for it to work.

At the moment Spanish to English or English to Spanish is all that’s available for €7.99 each, but if you are off to Spain this summer, you won’t need to scratch your head over a menu.
