Reddit tackles trolls in response to user unease over offensive content

Uncivil comments are assumed to be a normal part of the web; where there is freedom of speech and the ability to be anonymous, we must allow all voices including the angry, the stupid and the trolls. Reddit has been one of the bastions of freedom of expression and the ability to protect your identity, which has led to a large and loyal community of users but

Reddit’s data shows it has also led to an increase in trollish behaviour. A recent survey of more than 15,000 users pointed to “much concern about an increasingly negative and unsafe community environment”; 50 per cent of those who said they wouldn’t recommend Reddit to a friend stated it was because of hateful or offensive content and community. Reddit has listened and is now making it easier for verbal harassment and attacks to be reported and to have the offender removed.
