A group of young Irish social entrepreneurs is travelling to Germany this week to take part in a technology festival.
Campus Party, which is held in Berlin, begins tomorrow and will feature well known names such as founder of the web Sir Tim Berners-Lee, author and TED speaker Don Tapscott, and high-tech entrepreneur Yossi Vardi. More than 600 hours of talks and workshops in 16 different areas, including free software, entrepreneurship, social media, gaming, development, robotics and design, are planned.
The Irish group were chosen through the Think Big programme, designed by O2 and Headstrong to help young people take part in community projects on mental health.
Participants were asked to submit ideas for apps that could promote positive mental health to young people.
One of the winning projects, by Trinity College Dublin’s welfare officer Aisling Ní Chonaire, gives students access to information on mental, sexual and physical health, and financial planning. The second, by Kevin McGowan from Schull, Co Cork, sends texts promoting positive mental health messages.
