Eir warns customers over email phishing scam

Communciations company Eir has warned customers about a new phishing email which has been sent to hundreds of people today.

The email, which displays the Eir logo, tells customers they are entitled to a refund from the company.

The phishing email tells customers they are entitled to a refund and asks them to login to their My Eir account by clicking on a link.

The link however takes people to a page almost identical to the Eir customer page and asks customers to select their bank and their credit/debit card details.

Eir has warned customers to delete the phishing email and not to click on any links contained within.

Eir have advised ayone who received an email to:

• Never disclose any information particularly personal or financial information.

• Delete the SMS/MMS or email message immediately

• Never click on web links contained within such messages or download content associated with the message.

Eir advised anyone who has provided personal bank account or credit card details to contact their bank immediately to advise that your details have been compromised.

The financial institution will be in a position to advise regarding cancelling bank or credit cards.

Eir said if you have clicked on a link contained within a message, you may have been directed to a ‘fake’ website seeking personal information.

It advised if personal information has been provided you should contact the relevant company or financial institution to advise that your details have been compromised.
