AMCS in Limerick to double workforce

A LIMERICK technology firm has announced that it will double its workforce to 130 employees over the next three years.

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan officially launched a new research and development centre at AMCS in Fanningstown, Crecora, yesterday, which will allow the company to expand its current workforce of 65 in the areas of software development, software support, project management and sales.

Established in 2003, AMCS implements information solutions for the recycling and environmental management industry. It also provides measurement and billing solutions for more than one million households in Ireland through its on-vehicle “pay by weight” technology.

It is a major player in the supply of IT and management, tracking solutions for the recycling and environmental management sectors.

“In the last two years, with the highly valued support of Enterprise Ireland, we have significantly expanded our presence in continental Europe, the UK and the USA, creating over 30 jobs,” said chief executive Jimmy Martin.

“We believe our unique technology and expertise puts us in an ideal position to become an industry leader, not only in our existing markets but across Europe and the USA.”

The official opening of the new facility in Limerick comes after the company recently acquired UK-based software services provider, the Solution Works.

The new roles to be created in Limerick will be available in areas such as software development, software support, project management and sales.

Mr Martin said yesterday that the company had invested about €4 million in research, development and international expansion over the past two years.

Mr Hogan said the Government was committed to creating jobs and strengthening the economy.

“The Government will work hard to ensure that the conditions are right to facilitate growth, to allow businesses such as AMCS to expand, develop and create the jobs which will get our people, and our economy, working again,” he said.
