Maxtor, a US firm specialising in hard disk and consumer storage devices, is transferring 24 jobs from its plant in Bray to its operations in Budapest, Hungary.
The company, which employs 115 people at its operational headquarters for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in Bray, said it was transferring its regional disk drive recovery, repair and refurbishment operations overseas.
Maxtor, which is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange, said the consolidation of its repair operations would cut costs and increase efficiency.
The firm said yesterday that it would consult with affected employees regarding opportunities for redeployment, transfer to Budapest, or a voluntary redundancy package.
"We expect the consolidation of our disk drive recovery operations into one location to increase the efficiency of our operation and lower costs," said Donal Connell, Maxtor's senior director of customer service for EMEA and general manager of the Bray facility.
Maxtor's Irish operation will continue to provide customer service, logistics, finance, IT, human resources, sales, engineering and field engineering services for the firm.
