UPC customer numbers climb in second quarter

Firm adds 9,000 subscriptions in three-month period

UPC continued to grow its customer numbers in the second quarter of the year, adding 9,000 subscriptions for its services during the three-month period.

The company, which offers TV, phone and broadband services to its customers, said it now had more than 1.02 million customers, a rise of 8 per cent or 76,400 compared with the same period a year ago.

The company now has 321,300 broadband customers, a rise of 13 per cent year on year. It now offers its entry-level broadband at speeds of up to 50 megabits per second, with the top tier at up to 150mbps.More than 265,000 customers are signed up for phone services, with 377,400 digital customers also on its books.

Chief financial officer Carol Grennan said the quarter had been a strong one for the company.

The company business services division also continued to grow, offering services to small and medium enterprises, public sector, large corporations and the carrier wholesale market.
