Egenera add Fort's cloud expertise
Irish cloud management software provider Fort Technologies has been bought by US-based Egenera.
The move will add Citywest based Fort’s expertise to Egenera’s cloud platform, and expands the US company’s reach in Europe.
The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
As part of the deal, Fort Technologies chief executive Gerry Murray will take over as head of Egenera’s EMEA operations.
Egenera’s PAN Cloud Director software platform allows customers to design and deliver enterprise-class cloud services.
Its products support physical, virtual and cloud environments, giving customers flexible IT services. Aimed at both private and public cloud deployments, the software helps cut back on IT complexity.
Mr Murray said the move made sense for the firms, who already had a working relationship prior to the merger, and would accelerate the growth of the company in new markets.
“It projects the software further than we had planned. It’s now being sold in the Far East, Australia, and North America. Our original plans were to go first to Europe,” he said.
“With the deal, we get a worldwide footprint through the existing channels that Egenera has.”
The merger will also bring greater capacity for revenue generation in the future, and increased support, and Mr Murray said the deal was being viewed as a very positive move for the company.
No jobs are being lost in the Dublin operation as a result of the deal, and although there are no immediate plans for workforce expansion, Mr Murray said the merger could possibly lead to new jobs in the future.
Egenera will gain intellectual property developed by Fort Technologies .
