WITH RTÉ’S coverage of Euro 2012 winding down this week, it’s good to hear that veteran presenter and public relations guru Bill O’Herlihy (pictured) – London will be his 10th Olympics – has shelved plans to retire from Montrose. “On mature reflection, to coin a phrase, I will not be retiring,” the Corkman told the June issue of Business Post, a magazine produced by An Post. “RTÉ have kindly offered me a new two-year contract, which I’m delighted to accept.” Okey dokey.

The success of Shamrock Rovers in Europe and at home last season helped it return to the black. Abridged accounts for Shamrock Rovers FC Ltd show it had accumulated profits of €44,978 at the end of November 2011. This compared with accumulated losses of €513,629 at the end of the previous year. The Hoops last year became the first Irish team to qualify for the group stages of the Uefa Europa League, with Tottenham Hotspur among their opponents. The Tallaght club also retained its League of Ireland title and won the all-Ireland Setanta Cup.
Rovers closed the year with shareholders funds of just under €500,000, making it the envy of other League of Ireland clubs.

Ulster Bank has drafted in external help to try and stem the torrent of criticism of its handling of the IT issue that has left thousands of customers without access to their funds. Earlier this week Neal Cummins of PR agency Fleishman-Hillard was manning the phones at Ulster Bank’s offices to help deal with media queries. What a mess.
