Tiger to pounce on Dublin city shoppers

You may not realise you need a kite in a bag or frisbees in five colours, but you might change your mind once you visit the new Tiger store opening in Dublin city centre next week.

Tiger started in 1995 as a Danish discount store with a difference – it sold high-fashion good quality items at very low prices. The first Irish stores were opened in 2011 by recruitment consultant Gillian Maxwell and she is now firmly on the expansion path .

"We came across the shop in London and I wanted to buy everything in the store, I like it so much. I brought loads of items on the Ryanair flight home, and thought why not bring the concept here too?" she says.

The Nassau Street shop (opening on May 10th) will be the company's flagship store. From cake stands to candles, and juggling balls to pliers, the business, which already has outlets in Dún Laoghaire and Santry in Dublin and Newbridge and Maynooth in Kildare, tries to offer something quirky for everyone.

Growth plans
"We are changing people's idea of what they can get for €1, €2 and €5," says Maxwell. She, along with Danish 50/50 partner Zebra, is now looking to grow into Cork, Galway and Limerick, with some store locations already selected.
