Ryanair is to open its first central European base in Lithuania, basing two aircraft at Kaunas and adding nine new routes. This will bring to 18 the number of routes that it will fly from the airport from May.

The airline’s 40th base will handle up to one million passengers annually, it said.

The company is in talks with four other central European airports to open bases.
