Carphone Warehouse turns €10m loss into €2.1m profit

Irish arm of retailer reports 13.3% increase in revenues for 2014

Carphone Warehouse Ireland is back in the black after posting pre-tax profits of €2.1 million for 2014.

This is a six-fold increase from the communications retailer’s 2013 loss of €9.6 million.

The retailer reported a 13.3 per cent increase in revenues for 2014.

Carphone Warehouse Ireland managing director Peter Scott said the retailer's performance represented a "sizeable turnaround in its Irish operations, providing the basis for fresh investment from the group in Ireland".

The company recently outlined a €30 million investment in its own new mobile phone operator which will launch to Irish consumers this July.

The investment includes the creation of up to 50 full-time jobs and a new €6 million data centre in Citywest, Co Dublin.

Last year also saw Carphone Warehouse officially merge with Dixons. The new Dixons Carphone now has 119 stores nationwide and employs 1,050 staff in Ireland.

“The expansion of our retail footprint, coupled with Dixons connected technology expertise, means that together, Dixons Carphone can meet the full needs of today’s connected consumer,” Mr Scott added.
