Q&A: Train strike

What the rail strike means for commuters

Will any trains be running on Sunday and Monday? No. Iarnród Éireann says it does not expect any services – Inter-city, commuter or Dart – to run tomorrow and Monday. Enterprise services will operate between Belfast and Newry only. Services also face possible disruption on Sunday, September 7th; Monday, September 8th; and Sunday, September 21st.

What alternative options do I have? All Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann and Luas services will operate normally. Some private bus operators have increased capacity and have been permitted to provide additional services on the days of industrial action. Full details on transportforireland.ie

Can I use my train ticket on bus services instead? No. Rail tickets will not be valid on bus services during the industrial action.

What happens if I already have tickets bought? Iarnród Éireann says customers who purchased their tickets at a station and who are affected by the industrial action should collect a refund form and return it to the postal address set out. It says online bookings are currently suspended for the dates of threatened industrial action. The company will begin processing refunds on August 27th for customers who had booked to travel on August 24th and 25th. Money should appear back on the customer’s card within 7-10 days.
