WASTE-WATER ECO-FRIENDLY SOLUTIONS:THE US division of semi-state peat company Bord Na Móna (BNM) is to open an innovation centre in Greensboro, North Carolina later this year, where it will showcase its solutions for water conservation, waste-water treatment and air pollution.

The company, which had $8 million in revenues in 2006, has invested $1 million in the centre. It will serve as an R&D hub for a new generation of environmental solutions, while allowing existing customers to preview new innovations and improved treatment processes. Potential customers will be able to visit the centre to get third-party performance data showing the specific treatment capabilities of each process.

Shane Keaney, president of BNM US, said: "We're committed to providing innovative waste-water, water-reuse and air-pollution solutions that reduce energy and chemical consumption, incorporate recycled or waste materials, and provide for water conservation."

BNM's most innovative product to date is its Monashell odour treatment technology, which uses filters that employ the natural functions of shells to treat waste-water. This efficient, environmentally friendly, low-maintenance solution reduces sulphides, volatile organic compounds and harmful odours that would otherwise occur.
