‘Totes emosh’ at Spin 1038 as breakfast hosts move on

#RyanandTracy trends on Twitter as they say goodbye to ‘Fully Charged’ listeners

Friday was a "totes emosh day in Spin towers", as breakfast hosts Ryan Phillips and Tracy Clifford signed off after six-and-a-half years – their goodbye to listeners coincidentally trending on Twitter in Dublin just as the Spin 1038 owner Denis O'Brien was doing the same.

Phillips, who is going back to being a solicitor, and Spin stalwart Clifford used their final Fully Charged show to read out messages from fans, including one who amusingly messaged "oh, what happened to Joe and Keith?" (the previous hosts).

Amid denials of any romantic history – "that's what kept the chemistry so good," said Clifford – it fell to the departing presenters to introduce the new Fully Charged hosts, Cormac Moore and Daniella Moyles, and implore listeners to "play nice" with their "new BFFs".

If Moore and Moyles have any nerves, Phillips's football analogy might not have helped much. "This is like when Alex Ferguson left Manchester United," he joked. "The question is, are you guys David Moyes or Louis van Gaal?"

Phillips and Clifford bowed out with a singalong to Keep on Movin' by 1990s boyband Five and indeed it wasn't long before the Spin 1038 website had moved on too, cleansing its pages of Ryan-and-Tracy's swansong podcast and show details.

“Not even gone 24 hours and you’ve already gotten rid of Ryan and Tracy’s pictures when you finally decide to update your website? That’s cold, Spin,” a commenter lamented.
