Bank of Ireland rugby sponsorship contest winners line out

Energy start-up and orthopaedics company to feature on Leinster and Munster jerseys

How much is it worth to sponsor the Leinster or Munster rugby teams for a day?

According to Bank of Ireland, which is in the third year of its "sponsor for a day" competition, the value to a business of having its brand on players' shirts, as well as exposure via pitch signage, the match programme and – of course – the television cameras, clocks in at about €50,000.

This Saturday's European Rugby Champions Cup games between Leinster and Bath and Munster and Stade Français will feature jerseys emblazoned with the names Acutrace (Leinster) and CelgenTek (Munster), the two winners of this year's competition, which is decided by the time- honoured process of rounding up votes. Both games will be broadcast on Sky.

Acutrace is an Irish-owned energy technology start-up that has developed products for monitoring energy consumption in commercial and industrial buildings, while CelgenTek is an international orthopaedics company based in Shannon, Co Clare. Supporters will be hoping for plenty of spent energy on Saturday – but no broken bones.
