German shares took their lead from a rebound on Wall Street in late afternoon European trade to post modest gains on Tuesday.
But dealers noted that buying was extremely selective. "International investors do not appear to be interested in the German market right now," said one Frankfurt trader.
Paris CAC-40: 2,784.76 (+22.56)
The Paris Bourse chalked up a solid gain on the first day of the July trading month as the CAC-40 index finished the day up 0.82 per cent by comparison with the Monday close.
Volume was spectacular by Paris Bourse standards, totaling Ffr17.56 billion for the market as a whole, including Ffr15.3 billion for the issues included in the CAC-40 index. The total was very close to the bourse's record volume of Ffr17.9 billion reached on May 30th.
Milan Mibtel: 13,316 (-1)
The Milan market was also stable, taking a break after four straight winning sessions that pushed indicators to record highs.
