Germany's stock market ended the first half of the year on a firm note with stocks helped by a sharp rebound on German debt markets and a higher close on Wall Street overnight. But dealers said the market was lacklustre, with investors undecided about comments about the economy made on Thursday by Bundesbank president Dr Hans Tietmeyer.

Paris CAC 40: 2,123.70 (+10.85)

French stock prices moved ahead, bolstered by weaker than expected US GDP figures that dampened interest rate fears.

Share prices in Milan closed firmer helped by a rise in late trading and a firmer trend on Wall Street. Stocks rebounded to recoup the previous day's losses.
