GALWAY has been promised 100 new jobs in computer software over the next three years through a subsidiary of the German airline company, Lufthansa.

Start Amadeus, a subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa, is to establish a software development centre in the IDA Business Park in Newcastle, Galway.

Start Amadeus will share responsibility for the Lufthansa group's information technology activities, including core software development, software testing, redesign of legacy systems and customisation of products and systems for the group. The general manager is a Galway man, Mr Gregory Cawley, who was recruited in Switzerland where has worked for a number of years.

Start Amadeus was established in Frankfurt in 1971 to develop computer reservation systems for the airline industry in Germany. It employs 700 people, it has an annual turnover of £168 million (€213 million), and claims a network system with the largest number of computer links in Germany. Deutsche Lufthansa employs 58,000 people.
