Keeping the balance

Bundesbank president Mr Hans Tietmeyer has said the decisive issue for the Bundesbank in determining EMU fiscal criteria is sustainability. "We consider all the criteria important," Mr Tietmeyer said. "Inflation, interest rates, exchange rates and the condition of public finances. What is important is that the situation should be sustainable," he said.
