A CO CLARE investment broker was charged at a court in Dublin yesterday with converting almost £200,000 of investment money belonging to a client for his own use. Mr James Alan Conlon (49), with an address in Ardnataggle, O'Briensbridge, Killaloe, Co Clare, and with a business address at Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, is charged with committing the offences between 1991 and 1992.

Det Garda William O'Connor, of the Fraud Squad, charged him at Dublin District Court with fraudulently converting for his own use £68,788.98 belonging to a Galway woman, which was intended for an investment company in the Isle of Man. He is further charged with fraudulently converting for his own use £66,211.59 belonging to the same woman on September 20th, 1991. The charges allege this was also intended for an off shore investment company in the Isle of Man.

A third charge against Mr Conlon is for fraudulently converting £59,000 belonging to the same woman and which was made payable to an account in the ACC Bank on December 4th, 1992. Judge John Nealon remanded Conlon on independent bail of £100,000 to appear again before the court on September 6th.
