Trinity teams up with NEC

The Centre for Telecommunications Value-Chain Research (CTVR) at Trinity College Dublin has entered into a research partnership with NEC Communication Systems, part of Japanese technology giant NEC Group, focused on the emerging area of all-optical networking.

The research will concentrate on the use of optical networks to facilitate faster, lower cost internet connections in the future.

wins UAE contract

Irish company AdaptiveMobile has won a contract with United Arab Emirates-based Etisalat, which will allow it launch an anti-spam service for its customers which will stop unsolicted SMS messages (spam) from overseas sources.

Etisalat will use AdapativeMobile's PolicyFilter SMS product to protect its 6.4 million users.

Honours for Barrett, Martin

Intel chairman Dr Craig Barrett and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin will be among those honoured at the first Irish Technology Leaders Silicon Valley Awards to be held in Stanford University on March 27th.

The event is being held to mark the 15th anniversary of Intel producing its first microprocessor in Ireland.

Technology conference

The Irish Web Technology Conference (IWTC), organised by IrishDev.com, will run for four days from February 26th next at the Cineworld Complex in Dublin.

With more than 50 lectures and a series of evening events, it will cover everything from early-stage funding from start-ups to the accessibility, usability and psychology of web design.

Designed for business owners, financiers and developers, IWTC will have a focus on mobile technologies, including a session on the new developer kit for the iPhone.

Havok launches in 'Frisco

Havok, the Emmy award-winning Irish software company which provides tools for computer game designers and film-makers, has introduced two new products at the 2008 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco this week.

Havok Cloth and Havok Destruction will provide artists with dramatically increased control over interactive cloth and destructible objects within games.

Also at GDC, Microsoft said it would soon allow Xbox users to play, rate and share community-created games.
