Pirate Bay lawyer demands retrial

A defence lawyer for one of the four men sentenced to jail in the Pirate Bay case has demanded a retrial, saying the judge’s membership in several copyright protection groups means he might have been biased.

Stockholm district court judge Tomas Norstrom is a member of two groups for the protection of immaterial rights. A representative of the film and music industry who participated in the trial is a board member of one of the groups.

The judge said he did not believe his memberships had made him ineligible to preside over the trial. – (Reuters)
