The late Mr Conor Crowley was an open and warm-hearted man who brought a rich humanity to all those he met, mourners heard yesterday. He was a strong family man, who remained involved to the end in the lives of his children.

The funeral mass was celebrated by his brother, Fr Roderic Crowley CM, and more than a dozen other priests, mostly of the Vincentian order. Fr Crowley said once he was convinced of a particular course of action or project, Mr Crowley always gave his all.

Mr Crowley (71), died suddenly at his home on Monday. A chartered accountant, he was a partner in the Kennedy Crowley practice, which later formed part of KPMG.

The chief mourners were his wife Pat; children Vernon, Lisa and Fiona; brothers Laurence, Tim and Fr Roderic and sister Marianne.

The former Taoiseach, Mr Charles Haughey, and his wife Mrs Maureen Haughey attended. Fine Gael MEP, Ms Avril Doyle, was also present.

The business community was represented. Current and former partners at KMPG attending included Mr Robin Lewis-Crosby, Mr Ron Carroll, Mr Mark Dobbyn, Mr Gerard Flood, Mr Alex Burns. Mr Ron Bolger, KPMG's former managing partner and the former chairman of Telecom Eireann, and his wife, Jenny, were also present.

Capt Brian MacSweeney, former of the Army Equitation School, was also present, as was several representatives of the International Equestrian Federation; business people Ms Mary Finan, Mr Desmond Miller, Mr Bill Beckwith, Mr Alex Spain. The architect Mr Sam Stephenson; the horse trainer Mr Charles Murless, and representatives of the fashion industry were also present.
