Fine Gael seeks syllabus space for computer studies

Computer studies should be compulsory for all schoolchildren up to Junior Certificate level, and individuals should get a £500 tax break for the purchase of computers, Fine Gael said yesterday.

Releasing its new policy document on telecommunications and the information age, the party called on the Government to force Telecom Eireann to reduce charges by 50 per cent within three years and ensure access to fast, broadband Internet connections.
