FutureScope conference to examine tech trends and insights

More than 1,000 attendees, from start- ups, multinational companies, the investment community and academia are expected to attend technology conference FutureScope in Dublin tomorrow.

The event, which is taking place in the Convention Centre, aims to encourage engagement and collaboration between start-ups and multinational companies based in Ireland.

As well as a strong stage presence from multinationals such as Google, Facebook, IBM, Microsoft, Accenture, Vodafone, Cisco and Ryanair, FutureScope will host start-ups including Stripe, Brownbag Films, Currency Fair and MooCall.

Ryanair chief technology officer John Hurley, Currency Fair co-founder Brett Meyers, Dublin commissioner for startups Niamh Bushnell, NewsWhip founder Paul Quigley, Realex founder and Fire Financial Services chief executive Colm Lyon, Facebook SMB partner manager Olly Sewell and Julie Spillane, director of the centre for innovation at Accenture are among the speakers.

There will be innovation showcases, technology demonstrations, structured networking and offstage panels for a deeper focus on topics such as the internet of things, fintech and data analytics.

John Phelan of Dublin Business Innovation Centre (Bic), the organiser of the event, said there was a strong appetite for engagement and collaboration between companies within the Irish tech ecosystem, from start-ups to multinationals.

“The level of demand for our silicon stroll event, which was set up specifically for this purpose, compelled us to scale the event in 2016. In doing so we renamed it FutureScope, expanded the format, opened it up to a larger audience and developed content across a broader spectrum of technology verticals.”

The FutureScope conference replaces Dublin BIC’s “silicon stroll” bootcamp, which was also designed to foster collaboration between the global technology companies based in Ireland and the indigenous start-up community.
